Cultural Heritage of the Huguenots

September 16 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

£10.00

Event Navigation

Our first talk of the Autumn season is with Sue Jackson on ‘The Cultural Heritage of the Huguenots’, a perfect introduction to the great impact Huguenot refugees had on British culture in the 1700s. As silk weavers, goldsmiths, ironworkers and horticulturists the Huguenots made an extraordinary contribution to English craftsmanship.
Sue will demonstrate that the Georgian Age of Elegance, illustrated through luxury goods such as dress, silverware, furniture and the social etiquette around the newly introduced product of tea, was to a large extent, fuelled by Huguenot craftsmen.
Sue is a well-known London Blue Badge Guide with a special interest in the Huguenots. She is a Fellow of the Huguenot Society and leads walks around Spitalfields, famous for the Huguenot silk weavers that settled there.

Museum admission included with ticket.
