Explore the relationship between culinary herbs beloved by the Huguenots and the therapeutic properties of medicinal herbs in art, with botanical artist Edwina Finn. In each workshop there will be a different focus inspired by the Huguenots.
18 May: Create a recipe card, illustrated with watercolour ink
Explore the possibilities of watercolour ink using culinary herbs as inspiration create a unique illustrated recipe card. Discover why the Huguenots loved to grow and cook with herbs and sample some freshly brewed herb tea while you sketch.
25 May: Create a concertina book filled with sketches
Informed by the complete herbal of Nicholas Culpepper, you can create a concertina book which you can fill with sketches of a variety of herbs.
1 June: Create a watercolour painting inspired by The Huguenot Garden at The French Hospital
During this workshop we will have the opportunity to explore the herb filled Huguenot Gardens in The French Hospital, which are not usually open to the public. Using graphite pencil and watercolour you will produce an illustration based on fragrant herbs loved by the Huguenots.
