We are looking for volunteers!
Volunteers enable us to open our doors, engage visitors in our displays and enable us to run an exciting programme of events and activities. They also help with administration and research and act as advocates for the Museum through distributing leaflets, activity on social media and telling people what we do. We depend on their skills, experience and enthusiasm.
Front of House Volunteers
This is a key volunteer post. We are looking for friendly, outgoing and confident people to cover our small museum reception and shop. This role involves meeting and greeting our visitors, explaining what the museum is about, promote our events programme, and taking payments.
You will assist with keeping our gift shop fully stocked and making sure that all items are priced and attractively displayed.
Full training will be given and full time staff will be on hand during all shifts for support. You do not need to know everything about the Huguenots but an interest in history is helpful.
Shifts include Wed – Sat AM (10am – 1.40pm) and PM (1.30pm – 5pm though you will usually get away before 5). There are extra slots to support various events and activities.
Learning & Events Volunteers
Do you have a passion for learning and engaging with people?
Be part of our Learning Team and help deliver our diverse programme.
We facilitate events for all ages, early years (0-5), primary, secondary and lifelong learning. Full of variety, this role enables you to share your ideas for workshops, prepare resources, as well as assist in the delivery of our workshops.
Our sessions and workshops are hands on and full of fun so this role can involve planning and preparing or even getting stuck in during workshops.
As this is a flexible role, you may wish to volunteer for our regular or special events and even put ideas into practice if you have a skill you would like to share in a workshop of your own!
Full training will be given. Your role will be to support our Learning Officer who will be directly responsible for the delivery of all events. You will be working directly with children and young people so a DBS check might be carried out.
Family History Volunteers
This is a specialised role which requires a volunteer with an eye for detail and strong research skills.
Did you know 1 in 6 English people may be descended from Huguenots? A group of our volunteers assist visitors in investigating their family history.
Using well-known genealogical sites such as Ancestry and Find My Past, as well as records created by the Huguenot Society, researchers look into whether a visitor has Huguenot heritage.
This is a service that we charge for so volunteers would need to have a dedicated interest in family history research, as well as meeting and hearing visitors’ stories!
Additional Volunteer activities
We also need help with marketing, administration, documenting our collections and helping with bookings and events. Some of these activities can be done away from the Museum and the working pattern can be more flexible than some of the other roles.
If any of these opportunities interest you then please contact email@example.com for more information!
