Silver Plate

Lewis (Louis) De Tudert was one of the original directors of the French Hospital. On his death in 1739 he left bequests of £100 each to the French Hospital and the Spitalfields ‘Soupe’.

Lewis also gave £50 to the original appeal for the French Hospital and acted as guarantor to ‘inmates’ of the Hospital. In 1719 Lewis acted as guarantor to Marie Vautier and in 1727 to Magdeleine Fauchet. He paid 2 shillings 6 pence per week for Marie’s maintenance but did not contribute to the cost of her funeral. For Magdeleine Fauchet he made a weekly contribution of 1s 6d and 6s 3d towards the cost of her funeral in 1727.
